Kiku alternative for UK therapists

Kiku has announced it is merging with Konfidens, and Kiku accounts are being migrated to the Konfidens platform (Kiku's migration page, fetched 25 September 2026). If you're mid-migration and deciding whether to follow the move to Konfidens or pick your own next platform, this is a factual comparison — no speculation, no customer gossip, and no disparagement of Konfidens.

For a head-to-head against Kiku as it operated independently, see our Sessionly vs Kiku page. This page is for the migration decision itself.

What to compare when you're picking your next platform

If Kiku is being migrated onto Konfidens, the honest question isn't “which is better in the abstract” — it's “which better fits your practice going forward.” A short list of things worth checking before you commit.

Data hosting: UK region vs EU

Per Kiku's migration page, Kiku's existing data sits on “AWS servers based in the EEA” and that arrangement is described as staying in place. Per konfidens.com, the Konfidens platform “stores information on servers within the EU in accordance with GDPR and strict Norwegian health legislation.”

Sessionly is hosted in the UK and EU, with the primary region being London. Both UK and EU hosting sit inside the UK GDPR adequacy framework, so this is not a compliance-alarm question — it's a region-preference question. For UK therapists who want their client records stored under UK jurisdiction as the default, Sessionly does that; if EU-region storage is fine for your practice or your funders, Konfidens meets that bar. Ask your supervisor or ICO-facing lead if you're unsure which side of the preference sits for your service.

Getting your data out of Kiku

Kiku's migration page does not detail data-export options for customers who do not wish to follow the move to Konfidens. If you're considering leaving instead of migrating, ask Kiku directly, in writing, what export options are available for your account and on what timeline. Practical questions worth putting in an email:

  • Can I download client records, session notes, outcome measure history and calendar events as CSV, JSON or PDF?
  • What is the last date an export can be requested before my account is migrated?
  • Are attached files (agreements, intake forms, uploads) included in the export, or downloaded separately?
  • If I migrate to Konfidens, can I later export from Konfidens on the same terms?

If you end up migrating to Sessionly, the path is CSV-based. Sessionly's client importer (/clients/import) and notes importer (/notes/import) load records via CSV, up to 5,000 rows per run, with a dry-run preview before commit. There is no Kiku-specific one-click bridge — you would export from Kiku, tidy the CSVs to match Sessionly's headers, then run the imports (clients first; notes against those clients afterwards). Historical calendar appointments and file attachments are not covered by the importers today. Email hello@sessionly.uk if you would like the team to walk you through the sequence.

When Sessionly is the right next step

Sessionly may be the better fit for your practice going forward if:

  • You want UK-region hosting as the default: Sessionly's primary region is London. Konfidens is EU-region; both are inside the UK GDPR adequacy framework, so this is a preference question, not a compliance one.
  • You need named UK outcome measures out of the box: PHQ-9, GAD-7, CORE-10, CORE-OM, YP-CORE, DES-II, WSAS and Goal-Based Outcomes scored automatically with clinical risk flags — not forms to build yourself.
  • You're a solo therapist with more than 20 active clients: Konfidens Solo is capped at 20 active clients at any time (per konfidens.com, 25 September 2026); the Pro tier lifts the cap at £29/user/month ex VAT. Sessionly's Private Practitioner plan is £10.99/month inc VAT with no client cap.
  • You run a UK counselling agency or CIC: Flat £49.99/month inc VAT for up to 25 therapists, agency mode with therapist-to-client assignment, shared calendars, agency funding tracking and demographic reporting, therapist billing management, workforce-compliance documents (DBS, insurance, qualifications), and secure communications. See our agencies page for detail.
  • You work with grant-funded services and funders: Funding pot tracking, drawdown per client, and demographic reporting are built for UK CICs and grant-funded counselling.
  • You want a native iPhone app: Included at no additional cost on the Private Practitioner plan for logging notes between clients.

Frequently asked questions

What's happening to Kiku?

Per Kiku's own migration page (wearekiku.com/migrating-konfidens, fetched 25 September 2026), Kiku is merging with Konfidens and Kiku accounts are being migrated to the Konfidens platform. Kiku describes AWS servers based in the EEA as staying in place post-merger. Kiku's announcement is the only source we cite here — for the exact timing, migration mechanics and what happens to your specific account, contact Kiku directly at hello@wearekiku.com or the Konfidens support address they publish.

Do I have to migrate to Konfidens?

That is a question for Kiku and Konfidens; the announcement page does not detail an opt-out or an export path. If you are considering your options, most practice management platforms support some form of CSV or PDF export — ask Kiku what export options exist for your account and on what timeline, so you can preserve continuity of care records whichever platform you end up on. Sessionly ships CSV bulk-import wizards for client records and session notes; if you would like help walking through export-from-Kiku to import-into-Sessionly, email hello@sessionly.uk.

How is Konfidens different from Sessionly on data hosting?

Per konfidens.com, Konfidens stores data on servers within the EU and describes GDPR- and Norwegian-health-legislation compliance. Sessionly is hosted in the UK and EU, with the primary region being London. Both sit inside the UK GDPR adequacy framework — the difference is region-specific: UK for Sessionly's primary storage; EU for Konfidens'. For many UK therapists this distinction does not change day-to-day work; for UK agencies handling grant-funded contracts, or therapists whose supervisors raise questions about specific data-region choices, it can.

Does Konfidens include named UK outcome measures?

We could not find PHQ-9, GAD-7, CORE-10 or other named UK outcome measures on konfidens.com at the time of writing (25 September 2026). Verify with Konfidens directly. Sessionly ships PHQ-9, GAD-7, CORE-10, CORE-OM, YP-CORE, DES-II, WSAS and Goal-Based Outcomes as named, automatically scored measures with clinical risk flags.

What about agency and CIC use?

Konfidens states on its homepage that it 'is designed to work equally well for sole practitioners and clinics'. Beyond that, konfidens.com does not detail specifically UK counselling-agency features such as funding pot tracking, demographic reporting for funders, therapist-to-client assignment workflows or workforce-compliance documents — verify with Konfidens if these matter. Sessionly's Agency plan includes each of these as first-class features, at a flat £49.99/month inc VAT for up to 25 therapists.

Can Sessionly help me migrate?

Sessionly ships two CSV bulk-import wizards. The client importer at /clients/import loads client records — clinical record codes (or anonymous codes), first and last names, contact details, address, therapist assignment, referral source, funding pot and started or waitlisted date — up to 5,000 rows per run with a dry-run preview before commit. The notes importer at /notes/import loads session notes against clients already in Sessionly, keyed on the anonymous code (or clinical code in names-mode orgs); it covers session date, session number, session type, session notes and process notes. Historical calendar appointments and file attachments are not covered by the importers today — export those from Kiku separately if you need continuity. Practical path: export what you need from Kiku, tidy the CSVs to match Sessionly's headers, run the client import first, then the notes import against those clients. Email hello@sessionly.uk if you would like the team to walk you through the sequence.

Try Sessionly free for 14 days.

No credit card required. From £10.99/month inc VAT solo; £49.99/month inc VAT flat for agencies of up to 25 therapists. If you're moving away from Kiku and want a hand with the transition, email hello@sessionly.uk.
